NANS EKITI WARNS DEAN OF FACULTY OF ENGINEERING OVER ATTEMPT TO DISSOLVE NUESA AND UNDERMINE STUDENT DEMOCRACY.

The leadership of NANS JCC Ekiti Axis has been informed through various channels about alleged plans by the newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Matthew A. Olaniyan. These plans reportedly involve taking a reckless and undemocratic action by unilaterally nullifying a duly conducted NUESA election. This election, which was supervised by the university’s ICT unit, was deemed free, fair, and credible. The plan is to replace it with an appointed caretaker committee.

This action is not only an outright assault on student democracy, but a shameless display of administrative tyranny that will not be tolerated under any guise.

Let it be clearly and unequivocally stated: NUESA is a students' association, not a tool for faculty control or manipulation. It is governed by its constitution, voted into power by students, and answerable to its members not to any Dean or faculty authority.

We view this abrupt cancellation of the election and the illegal imposition of a caretaker committee as a direct attempt by Prof. Olaniyan to hijack student structures, possibly in a bid to control NUESA funds or suppress student voices. If his intention as a newly appointed Dean is to test his might by trampling on the democratic will of engineering students, he has picked the wrong battleground.

We will not fold our arms while the democratic rights of Nigerian students are trampled upon.

Let it be known across all campuses and corridors of power:

• We will not recognize any caretaker committee illegally imposed on NUESA.
• We demand the immediate reinstatement of the elected NUESA officials.
• Any further attempt to suppress or scrap NUESA will be met with full resistance.
• NANS JCC Ekiti Axis will relocate its secretariat to the Faculty of Engineering, FUOYE, if justice is not served without delay.

We call on the university administration to immediately reverse this unconstitutional action and call Prof. Olaniyan to order. NANS is prepared to defend student unionism and the sovereignty of student associations with every legitimate means available.

We did not fight for unionism in Nigerian campuses to be bullied by overzealous faculty heads hiding behind administrative offices.

This injustice will not stand.
