STUDENTS’ STRUCTURES IN EKITI STATE CONDEMN THE UNWARRANTED ATTACKS AND HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS BY THE DG, BUREAU OF COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION – HON. MARY OSHO OMOTOSO

PRESS STATEMENT

The leadership of Nigerian students in Ekiti State, under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students NANS Southwest (Zone D), National Association of Nigerian Students NANS Ekiti Axis (JCC), National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN) Ekiti, Federation of Ekiti State Students’ Union (FESSU), and the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Ekiti State, wishes to express its total displeasure and strong condemnation of the repeated acts of harassment, intimidation, and reckless allegations consistently orchestrated by Hon. Mary Osho Omotoso, the Director-General, Bureau of Community Communication in Ekiti State.

It is unfortunate and deeply disappointing that an office that should naturally be youth and student-friendly has now turned itself into a platform for hostility and intimidation against student structures in the state. This unbecoming attitude reached a shameful peak during the 2025 Udiroko Festival, where Hon. Mary Osho Omotoso and her team harassed, embarrassed, and subjected student leaders to inhumane treatment, displaying conduct completely unworthy of a public officer, let alone someone who should be a mother figure.

To make matters worse, after this disgraceful display, her camp shamelessly resorted to making baseless allegations that student leaders are “anti-government” and being sponsored by opposition figures. This narrative is not only false but also an insult to the integrity of the student community. We categorically state that the entire student constituency in Ekiti State remains firmly committed to the success of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration, and we have demonstrated this loyalty consistently. Therefore, we will not tolerate any smear campaign or intimidation against us under any guise.

The continuous antagonistic disposition of Hon. Mary Osho Omotoso towards students is a threat to peaceful engagement, collaboration, and development in Ekiti State. Her actions are an embarrassment to the government she represents, and we strongly believe that Mr. Governor does not share this toxic mindset.

If Hon. Mary Osho Omotoso does not have the basic capacity, emotional intelligence, and professional conduct required to manage an office as sensitive as the Bureau of Community Communication, she should immediately vacate the position.

We, therefore, issue a 48-hour ultimatum to Hon. Mary Osho Omotoso to either:
1. Retract her reckless and unfounded allegations publicly, and
2. Tender an unreserved apology to the student community in Ekiti State,
OR be ready to face a massive, coordinated solidarity action by the entire student structures in Ekiti State. This action will continue until she is removed from office because she has proven herself to be a liability to youth inclusiveness and student-government relations in the state.

Students constitute over 40% of the population in Ekiti State, and we will no longer allow anyone to threaten our dignity, freedom, and legitimate presence in the civic space.

Mary Osho Omotoso Must Go! Enough is Enough!
