NANS Calls For Proactive Measures Against Mahmuda Terrorists In Southwest

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone has called on Governors, Monarchs in the region to strategize on security measures over the terror group, Mahmuda.

In a press release by the association Treasurer, Comrade Ojetola Babatunde 'Toyyem', he noted that Southwest leaders must be at alert as the terrorist group are reportedly causing havoc in Kwara, a neighboring state to the zone.

Ojetola said, "the news of a faction of Boko Haram terrorists, Mahmuda and its resurgence in Kwara state has raised security awareness in Southwest and Yoruba land.

"This deadly group has been reportedly involved in kidnapping, killing and destruction of properties in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

"There are claims that they also operate in Yashikira District in Baruten LGA and Borgu LGA in the neighbouring Niger State.

"It's now very important that our Dear Governors should be very proactive, switch into actions before these deadly humans infiltrate our lands to cause any heinous crime.

"The Government should also amalgamate with royal fathers to corroborate with already existing security architecture in the state.

"While as a student association, we also urge both state government and school management to strengthen campus security, increase surveillance around schools and provide stitch in time measures, especially in secondary and primary schools.

"We believe in our Governors and our monarchs, we pray that may God continue to strengthen them. Kudos for the empowerment given to local vigilantes and our Southwest Security Network codenamed "Amotekun".

"We also urge the general populace to be vigilante and report any unusual movements in their community to security operatives. Also, let's avoid extra jungle justice and be a law abiding citizen." Ojetola concluded.
