One Year After: NANS Southwest Emphasizes Student Safety in Memory of MohBad

One year after the tragic death of Nigerian music star Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as MohBad Imole, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of students across the region. In a statement released today, NANS Southwest leadership emphasized the need for increased vigilance and proactive measures to protect students from violence and insecurity.

“Despite a year passing, justice remains elusive for our beloved MohBad. His death is a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk within our society,” said Comrade Alao John, Coordinator of NANS Southwest. “While we continue to mourn his untimely passing, we must also act to prevent future tragedies. Our campuses and communities should be sanctuaries for learning and personal growth, not zones of fear or violence.”

The association expressed deep concerns over the security situation on campuses, urging educational institutions, government agencies, and the general public to prioritize student safety. They highlighted the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding the lives of young Nigerians, who are the future of the nation.

“Every student’s life is valuable, and we must work together to ensure safety. We call on all stakeholders to do their part in creating an environment where students can learn and thrive without fear,” Comrade Alao John added.

Encouraging Vigilance and Community Awareness

NANS Southwest urged students to be vigilant and take personal responsibility for their safety by avoiding dangerous situations and reporting any suspicious activities to authorities. “Wickedness exists, but with a united effort, we can prevent the senseless loss that MohBad’s family and fans continue to endure,” said Comrade Sanni Sulaimon Olamide, Secretary General of NANS Southwest.

“Creating a culture of care, awareness, and cooperation is key to protecting one another.”

The association also encouraged students to foster a strong sense of community, look out for one another, and advocate for improved campus security. "MohBad’s legacy inspires us to continue the fight for a safer environment for all students," said Comrade Bamigboye Peter Oluwadamilola (Dammygold), Public Relations Officer of NANS Southwest.

A Call for Justice and Improved Security

NANS Southwest pledged to keep advocating for justice for MohBad and others who have been victims of violence. “We will not rest until justice is served and we have a safer environment for all,” Comrade John concluded.

As the anniversary of MohBad’s death is marked, NANS Southwest calls on all stakeholders to remember his legacy by ensuring that no student falls victim to violence again.
